Bubble CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is a non-invasive treatment for newborns with respiratory distress syndrome. It's a gentle way to help babies breathe by delivering air pressure to their lungs through a mask or cannula.
How it works
A mask or cannula is placed over the baby's nose
The mask or cannula is connected to a tube that goes into a water chamber
Air is blown into the water chamber to create bubbles
The pressure from the bubbles is delivered to the baby's lungs
Benefits
Helps keep the lungs open
Can help avoid intubation and mechanical ventilation
Can help with surfactant deficiency
Can help re-expand collapsed alveoli
Can help redistribute air
Can help reduce the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia
Safety Bubble CPAP is safe and effective and It's a non-invasive treatment.
Troubleshooting
If the machine isn't bubbling but the pressure is still high, it could mean something is off
